This project is comprised of three media assets created for a comprehensive instructional design program for nutrition education. The target audience is comprised of 6th grade middle school students required to complete a nutritional education program.  Each asset has been creatively designed for the intended audience with specific learning objectives requested by the client.
This is the Training Needs Analysis (TNA) document for the scope of the project:
Below is the first asset, which is an instructional video about nutrition. It is a fun animation, with light-hearted music intended to engage its audience, and uses successful filmmaking principals by incorporating storytelling, effective strategies of narration and sound effects to help maximize learning outcomes.  The video is very age-appropriate for 6th graders, with characters who look like them, graphics that are not too elementary, and music that is mature enough yet uplifting.  It is a great way to connect this audience with the learning content by using designs they can connect and relate to. Animation software was used to create this video.
Below is the second media asset, a nutritional game concept explained in a video. This game is very interactive, as players discover the impact of food choices on their game characters.  They will be able to see how the characters change according to how they feed them, offering immediate feedback.  Players will be motivated by a points, levels, and a badges system that will encourage them to play and succeed.  The game is challenging, by allowing players to figure out how to maintain healthy levels of nutrition.  It is also engaging, with the use of bright colors, cool graphics, and age-appropriate content. Adobe Illustrator was used to create the elements of this game, iMovie was used to create the video content, and GarageBand was used to put it all together with narration and background music.
The third and final media asset created for this project is an interactive infographic, shown below. I designed the infographic to be fun, informational, and engaging, using bright colors, easy-to-read text, and age-appropriate content. Adobe Illustrator was used to create the infographic, and Acrobat Pro was used to add the interactivity.
Below are images displaying the steps of the infographic, as the learner interacts with it. Note: the hand on the image was enhanced to show how the infographic is interactive.
Each student can decide which content they would like to reveal, as they try to understand the different parts of a nutrition facts label.  Having important information show up separately allows students not to be cognitively overwhelmed.
Giving learners control over what information to show encourages them to positively engage with content. As they study the information, they can visit and re-visit content to recall the information for their assessment, as well as for elemental learning outcomes.
Each section of the instructional content has corresponding colors with their descriptions, allowing learners to be confident they are relating the correct information.
